FOR CAREGIVERS

First SCO to create full-time caregiver advocate service
is free to SWH members

Photo of Paulette JadlowicCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – August 4, 2008 – Senior Whole Health (SWH), a health care plan for low-income seniors, has established a full-time advocate to assist family members who are responsible for the care of elderly relatives. SWH is believed to be the first of the three Senior Care Option (SCO) to create such a position.

"Caregivers take on a huge responsibility, often while holding down a job or caring for children or both," said CEO John Baackes. "This free service will not only enhance our members’ care, but it will provide assistance and support to the family members who unselfishly take on the role as informal caregiver."

SHW’s Caregiver Advocate is Paulette Jadlowic, formerly a Community Resource Coordinator at SWH with lengthy experience in the field of elderly care. A resident of New Bedford and fluent in both English and Portuguese, she was chosen for her expertise in answering members’ questions about benefits, and arranging and coordinating benefits and services with local elderly agencies.

As the SWH Caregiver Advocate, Paulette is available to provide members’ informal caregivers with information on resources and services, and to connect them to the member’s care management team. She can be reached at 1-888-794-7268, extension 6434, during normal business hours -- Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
